Majordomo: Reviews & Ratings

I recently dined at Major Domo with a larger party of nine, and we had an extensive dining experience that lasted almost three hours. The interior and outside patio are dimly lit for a more intimate dining experience. Overall, our dining experience was a mixed bag with some highs and lows. Drinks: The White Russian was a delightful substitute for an espresso martini, as recommended by our server. It was really good! Wouldn't Get Again: - Heirloom tomatoes: These were definitely fresh, but I'm not a big fan of tomatoes, so this dish didn't appeal to me too much. - Crispy Potatoes: Made with the infamous chilli oil, they almost felt like bougie brunch food and weren't particularly impressive. - Pork Half Bo Ssam: This dish was definitely was pull-apart, but was overall tough and lacked the flavor I expected (it was salty and it almost reminded me of hard Thanksgiving ham.) - Mushroom Crispy Rice: It was pretty mid, a lot of mushrooms and the crispy parts would get stuck in my teeth. Would Get Again: - Melon Salad: This was refreshing and unique, a nice surprise. - Bing Bread and Spreads: The chickpea and sardine spread was so good, and the bing bread was amazing!! Pillowy, hot, and aromatic. - Clam Lo Mein Pasta: This dish stood out for its heavy lemon zest flavor and harder noodles that were actually really nice. - Grilled Striped Bass: The sauce was flavorful and the fish was cooked nicely tender and soft. - Whole Plate Short Rib and Rice: This had to be ordered ahead of time but was well worth it. A server comes out to present it and cut it in front of us. We would eat it as ssam (wrapping it in lettuce and condiments) the scallion sauce was delicious with the short rib! - Beef rice (this comes with the order of short rib): After our table was done working through the meats, the pot of beef rice comes out cooked in the same oil that was used for the short rib and it made such a comforting and fragrant dish that I really enjoyed. -MajorDonut Dessert: The presentation and show were very cool, and the interesting twist was the gochujang, although we couldn't really taste it. Major Domo is a solid choice for a very nice dinner that offers very unique twists to their dishes. Service was also really good and very attentive. Definitely a must-try for those who get a kick at Asian fusion food!

Majordomo is a restaurant I recommend to anyone from date night to family get togethers. The service is normal of any la restaurant, nice and sincere. The food is a bit pricey but the amount they serve is well worth the price. I can't begin to explain the food and the flavors. All the dishes are a variation of an authentic Asian dish. Mixed amongst one another but dare-i-say even better than the originals.

I would give this restaurant a solid 4.3 stars which is very close to the Yelp average! Food and thoughts below! We made a resy through phone because my aunt was itching to eat here after seeing David Chang on Who Wants to be a Millionaire (lol). You have to call at least 24 hours in advance for their short rib so it was easier to also make a reservation via phone as well. Don't forget to confirm the preorder via the link they send where they WILL ask you for your credit card info - you won't be charged until you show up and actually eat there though. Ok now for the space! Very cool warehouse style with plenty of space but bad cellphone reception LOL...no bother though because the company is all you need. Here is everything we ordered: Oysters - I'm not a seafood girl but the side sauces were very good Tuna Carpaccio - not my favorite because I didn't love the yuzu sauce but other people really enjoyed it Little Gem Salad - super fresh (such a satisfying crunch) and i just love big lettuce cups haha! But again don't love seafood so I didn't like the toppings Heirloom Tomatoes - so so good and fresh! Crispy potatoes - the lemon mayo paired with the garlic and chili was so perfect! Wish the serving size was bigger! Fried corn ribs - also so good! this was on the original momofuku menu so it's only around for the anniversary year Clam lo mein - nothing special but the noodles were so al delte which is my absolute favorite. also the flavors weren't overpowering which is perfect Mushroom Crispy Rice - star of the night! the flavors were perfect together and the crisp of the crispy rice added great texture - i wish it had more crispy rice vs the regular rice LOL Striped Bass - again not my favorite because i dont love seafood but the sauce was good and the fish was fresh Short Rib (preorder) - ok i actually enjoyed this dish! plenty to share and seasoned to perfection - it comes with lettuce and shiso which is a must but the other banchan wasnt necessary because the meat was so flavorful. the rice that comes as the second course was also delicious but slightly oily Ended the night with their pandan pie that i would skip as the texture was weird and it tasted bitter to me and their majordonut which was quite the show! i did find the gochujang caramel to be more salty than spicy which was off-putting to me and it is definitely a very RICH dessert Overall, great service and a good time! Will probably be back to try some other things ;) parking: pretty easy street parking or there is a lot across the way for $12

It's very LA. Modern industrial setting with hints of minimalist zen matched with amazing energy and natural light. A mish mash of Asian, European and American cultures on a plate. The menu changes every so often to keep patrons on their toes. Service was top notch which is to be expected in a joint like this. We ordered a bit of everything and there was just two of us so we couldn't get the bigger entrees--saving some for next time with the rest of our friends. What we had however, did not disappoint. Honey, Butter, Truffle was eye popping good. The combination was a revelation matched with freshly made Bing. Heaven in your mouth! Ribeye Au Jus was meh. Neither disappointing nor good. At least the meat was tender though. Tuna Carpaccio was refreshing and perfect for a quick summer night bite. Zesty yet spiced to perfection. Fresh tuna. Just wow. Lo Mein was scrumptious and seemed creamy but no it didn't taste that way. It was garlicky albeit not overpowering. Of course one would expect flavorful, perfectly cooked noodles from the same man who gave us Momofuku Noodle Bar. The Strawberry Pavlova was gone in less than 5 minutes. I did not expect this beautifully crafted light, sugary, meringue and candied strawberries combo to wow us the way it did. For two peeps, we paid $88 each including tip. Parking across the street was $12.

We got lucky and scored a table on a Friday night no less. The service was fantastic, the food was incredible, and the space was very nice. Drinks were really good and strong -- would come back for just those! We had the tuna carpaccio, which was maybe my least favorite dish. It was a little too sweet for my liking but it was fresh. The spicy potatoes were very spicy but so delicious. The little gem salad was a favorite with trout roe and kind of a caesar salad taste to it. Great for sharing. The pork chop was really really well done. I asked for rice which was a great way to soak up the sauce but cooked perfectly. Also.. THE PANDAN PIE. I would come back just for this as well. The drinks were strong and lovely -- definitely coming back here!

Finally tried Majordomo for my birthday dinner which was highly anticipated after loving Momofuku in Vegas and WOW.. it may be (dare I say it) better? We had a reservation for a Tuesday night and it was still lovely but not super packed.. perfect! Serena was helping us and was truly a gem. She was attentive, gave incredible suggestions, so friendly, and made our experience very memorable. Onto the food.. uhhhh home run? We ordered way tooo much food for 3 people but I would highly recommend coming in a big group to try everyone! Especially because a few of their dishes are meant for 4-6 people. - tuna carpaccio 11/10 - little gem 11/10 - bing bread with butter, honey, truffle 9/10 - clam lo mein 9.5/10 - duck confit crispy rice 11/10 - crispy potato's 10/10 - pork chop 8/10 - spice pot de creme 8.7/10 The vibes are are incredible, it smells so good, and aesthetically it's so gorgeous. YES

Husband and I had a date night to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. Loved the laid back atmosphere and the dress was casual. we had a reservation but due to the rain that evening they had to move people off the patio. However, they honored our reservation and were able to accommodate us at the bar with almost no wait. the bar tender that took care of us was new (do not remember his name) but he was super helpful and we got all of our dishes and drinks in a timely fashion. We had a great time! Got champagne on the house to celebrate our anniversary to start! Got some other cocktails too- Espresso Martini and don't recall the cocktail husband ordered. 1. Tuna Carpacio- a must get. The seasoning was superb! 2. Bing Bread (Cultured Butter and Honey)- O.M.G. This was my favorite dish! Sooo good. The bread was hot and the butter and honey just melted. My husband had been here about a month before and no joke he was literally back for Bing. We were honestly debating on ordering a second one for a good 10 minutes. 3. Fried Cauliflower- I love cauliflower so this dish was a must. The pineapple vinaigrette was a nice touch! 4. Sugar Snap Peas- texture was amazing and the lemon vinaigrette were perfect. 5. Mushroom Crispy Rice- wow this dish was amazing! Loved the crunchy texture of the crispy rice and you could smell and taste all the different types of mushrooms. A must get for mushroom lovers. 6. Iberico Pork- the fish sauce this dish comes with is amazing the pork was so soft and juicy!

Here's an updated review. Still 4 stars. I've been here a handful more times since 2019, and got the shortribs once (tip - if you get the shortrib, make sure you order a day in advance, and bring like, at least 4 people, because it's big). There is also a happy hour where select items (including the bings!!) and drinks are very reasonable. I still think they are solid. Some things hit well, others are kind of meh. The bings are great, and the mushroom rice thing is fantastic (albeit pretty expensive -- like, $50+ for a bowl of mushrooms and rice in soup). Given that there are so many good places in LA to eat, and eating out is getting progressively more expensive, I'd probably opt to go for the happy hour, and not a full meal. **** (From June 6, 2019) My brother came here a few months ago, so it's been on my radar to try. We were celebrating a birthday, so we moseyed on over to see what the fuss is about. Tucked away from the main street and nestled amongst what seems to be older warehouses and industrial buildings, where the walls are tagged with pretty cool street art, Majordomo sort of appears in a nice alley lit up by hanging strung lights above. Food: We got half dozen oysters, which comes with a bit of kimchi sauce on it. It was fine, not super notable. We also got the bing with the egg and roe. This was pretty good. The bing (pancake) was really well made, nice and fluffy and hot. Also, the sugar snap peas were delicious - nicely refreshing, and the horse radish gives it a good kick (for me, at least. I realize that some people need ghost peppers or something to feel ANY heat). Crispy pork belly was delicious, BUT, it is super unwieldy to eat. I have a pet peeve (which is ridiculous and totally a sign of my privilege, yea I get it), which is that I really hate messy foods. There is no graceful way to eat this pork belly. The way we surmised, you're supposed to take the giant piece of pork belly, dip it in the Domojang (which is like doenjang, or some sort of chili sauce) or pour some on it, put some rice and some radish on some lettuce, wrap it all up and attempt to eat it. This sounds ok in theory, except the pieces of lettuce are not nearly bit enough to wrap the giant piece of pork belly with the rice and the radish. And because it's pork belly, you can sort of take bites of it, but it doesn't come apart easily with your teeth. So............... I deconstructed it (after constructing it in the first place) and ate it that way. However, if you mix the Domojang with the rice, add whatever leftover radish and lettuce you have, you get an impromptu bibimbap, which was quite good. And not messy to eat. Finally, the rockfish. This dish was a whole steamed fish in bean sauce. It was good. But by this point, we were super full already, and had to take it home. I'll be curious to see if it holds up after a few days. #IsThisStillOKtoEat Beautiful pieces of cheek though. Cheeks are the best part of any fish. Service was good. We liked the fact that you can get unlimited sparkling water, and they don't charge. This is a very nice touch. We also got a cider, but that is not much to write home about. Overall, good experience, great service. But, do come understanding that you can get probably better, more traditional versions of this kind of food for a LOT less at traditional Asian restaurants (bossam-ish, whole fish, snap peas, etc). Then again, it's the experience, right? This being said, we are already thinking about when to go back, because there are a few other things on the menu that we want to try. Parking: It's fine. There's a lot for $8 right across the alley, and there was street parking.

Came here to celebrate a VERY late birthday dinner for myself, and it was a delicious feast. Preordered the whole short rib plate for my party, and the short rib was A1 quality. It was nice to have lettuce wraps along with gochuhang sauce and other flavorings to complement it. The beef fried rice came after the short rib, and it had a nice balance of beef fat, scallions, and horseradish. We also ordered little gem salad, crispy potatoes, and asparagus, and they were all delicious and of fresh quality. And then we ended the night with strawberry pavlova, and the taste and presentation of that dessert was well done. Overall, majordōmo was a 10/10 in the flavor and food quality department. However, I felt like the meal was pretty overpriced, and I don't think the total was worth near $500 worth including tax and tip. Also the patio seating for our group of six was not good, the hard wooden bench seating made my back hurt. I felt uncomfortable until I was able to get an actual seat from the waiter, which he didn't let me switch my seat until like 45 minutes into my meal. Despite that, my tummy was left satisfied! Also if you are lucky, there's free street parking around the area. Otherwise, there's a paid lot next to the restaurant.

We sat in the patio area, and it was a nice environment. I was worried that it might get cold but they had covers and heat lamps so we were comfortable the entire time. Our waiter was really helpful in that when we ordered, he was able to tell us if we had enough food or if we should order more. He was pretty knowledgeable on the food as well. All the food was delicious! The oysters were soooo fresh and the kimchi sauce took it over the top. The chilled shrimp tostada was crispy, creamy, and fresh. The whipped bone marrow bing was like butter on the bread. The mushroom crispy rice was packed full of mushrooms and crunchy from the pot. The half bo ssam paired so well with the sides offered. It was great to wrap it with the butter lettuce and perilla leaves. The pork shoulder was so tender and that it ripped so easily, we couldn't finish it but it was easily the best part of the dinner. We got the bo ssam to go and they were so nice to give us more sides to eat the bo ssam with. I def want to come here again and try more things.
